Chairman Message from Safety Specialist Committee

It is my honour to serve as the Chairman of the Safety Specialist Committee for Session 2020-2021. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Past Chairmen for their extraordinary leadership, and to the Committee Members for their dedication to adding values to our Committee in the past years.

The Committee has entered its 26th year, with the world changing rapidly driven by the emerging technologies, we will keep facilitating knowledge transfer, encouraging innovation as well as nurturing the youth so that we can contribute to building a sustainable city.

Safety is one of the key subjects in all the engineering disciplines. We will promote safety engineering through collaboration with other divisions, professional organisations, practitioners and academia for technical seminars, technical visits and workshops held locally and internationally.

To echo the vision from the President ‘Believing is Seeing – Innovation for Transformation’, we will encourage innovative solutions such as the adoption of BIM, MiC and DfMA. These solutions not only shorten the site construction period, but also enhance the site safety, quality and environmental performance. Besides, we will continue to promote the importance of “Safety by Design” concept through closer ties with the industry pioneers for more joint activities to widen our horizons and adopt the best practices to identify, eliminate or reduce all the foreseeable risks.

Another focus area is to engage more young talents to the engineering profession for the sustainable development of the industry. We will keep organising Student Safety Project Competition which provides an open and competitive platform for the engineering students to demonstrate their engineering capabilities and share the learning processes in safety regime.

I am confident that with the dedicated and unfailing support from all of you, our upcoming activities will continue the value creation for the industry. Your support and active participation are highly appreciated.
